ELAPHITE ISLANDS

The group of southern Dalmatian islands includes Korcula, Lastovo, the Elaphite islands, near Dubrovnik and the island of Mljet.
The Elaphite islands include Sipan, Lopud and Kolocep. North of the Elaphite islands is the island of Mljet, part of which is a national park.
Should you decide to go further you will reach the islands of Lastovo and Korcula.

Koločep
Settlement on the islet of the same name that belongs to the Elafiti group of islands near Dubrovnik.
It lies 7 km northwest of Gruž. The area is characterized by a pine forest and subtropical vegetation, as well as splendid pebble and sandy beaches.
The economy includes agriculture, olive, carob, pomegranate, citrus fruit and vegetable growing, as well as fishing, maritime activities and tourism.
The island is connected to Dubrovnik by a local boat line.

Lopud
The island of Lopud is one of the eastern group of 13 Elafite islands situated between Pelješac peninsula and Dubrovnik.
The island is an ideal place for relaxation and spending time in nature far away from the hurly-burly of modern life.
No vehicles are allowed on the island, nature is preserved in its purest form; there are several sandy beaches and walking paths near the sea.
Lopud is famous for one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the Adriatic called Šunj.
It lies on the southern side of the island and you can reach it by taking a slightly adventurous walk.
The island of Lopud is connected to Dubrovnik with ferries that drive on a daily basis.

Šipan
Šipan also Sipano (Italian: Giuppana) is the largest of the Elaphiti Islands, 17 km northwest of Dubrovnik, Croatia; separated from the mainland coast by the Kolocepski Channel; area 16.5 km2; population 500 (length 9.1 km, width up to 2.6 km).
Two limestone crests, the higher (Velji Vrh, 243 m) in the northeast and the lower in the southeast surround a dolomite depression, on which olives, figs, vine, carob-trees, almond-trees, oranges and citrus fruit are cultivated.
There are two ports on the island, Suđurađ (San Giorgio) in the east, and Šipanska Luka (Porto Gippana) in the west.
The island is also very famous for its great climate and numourous palm tree species that grow there.

Jakljan is a small island in the Elaphite Islands, southeast of the Peljesac Peninsula, between the island of Olipa in the north-west, the island of Sipan in the east and south-east and the island of Mljet in the south-west, area 3.45 sq km. The highest peak is Katine Staje (225 m). The central valley has sources of freshwater. The island is covered with lush Mediterranean vegetation. Chief occupations are farming, viticulture, olive growing and fishing. There is also a comfortable rest home with a restaurant and a campsite. Ruins of the Benedictine church of St. Sidor.
